MEAT and Livestock Australia's (MLA) regional manager for North America, Scott Hansen, will take over as the organisation's new managing director.
Mr Hansen, who has been based in Washington DC since 2009, will replace David Palmer in the role after Mr Palmer signalled his intention to quit last December.
A former executive director of the Victorian Farmer Federation Pastoral Group and Sheepmeat Council of Australia, Mr Hansen has been at the heart of the MLA campaign to increase beef, lamb and goat meat marketing efforts in the US, Canada and Mexico.
MLA chairman, Don Heatley, said Mr Hansen's experience in a range of roles in the Australian red meat industry would bring a depth of industry knowledge to the position.
"Scott has spent the last 15 years in executive roles providing services to the Australian red meat and livestock industry - a career that has kept him close to his rural origins," Mr Heatley said.
"I have no doubt Scott will take on this important role with great energy and commitment to drive MLA to continue to deliver the best possible services to our industry."
