Palmer set to exit MLA

16 Dec, 2010 06:21 PM
Meat and Livestock Australia managing director, David Palmer, has signalled plans to resign from the top job of the red meat research and development and marketing group but will stay on until a replacement is appointed.

MLA chairman, Don Heatley, said February marked five years as managing director for Mr Palmer who felt it was the right time to move on and “allow different ideas to guide the company through its next phase”.

He said during Mr Palmer’s tenure many of the industry’s considerable investments in programs such as the National Livestock Identification System and Meat Standards Australia had matured to be key planks of Australia’s international marketing advantage.

“David can be rightly proud of his contribution to the industry and that he leaves a legacy of strong and stable administration that ensures MLA will continue to provide important service to the industry,” Mr Heatley said.

Mr Palmer replaced Mark Spurr in the top job in 2006 after three years as MLA’s region manager in North America and prior to that headed up MLA’s industry affairs and communication arm.

MLA said the board would now initiate the process of recruiting a new managing director however Mr Palmer planned to stay on until a successor was appointed.

Let's have a Managing Director this time more orientated to grass roots producers not the big end of town only?

A circus that pretends NLIS is a winner has some serious mental problems and the whole shebang should be abolished.

Farewell Mr Palmer. You and your processor mates, along with your over-regulating industry programs made my decision to sell all my cattle very easy.

Hopefully your new adventures might elude you to things like ‘Free Enterprise’ as a business concept. This concept is not often thought of, or about, within quasi-statutory authorities and has as one of its risks ‘Bankruptcy’ but, it also has it rewards such as the desire and freedom to create something new in the hope of contributing to the betterment of others without, the failed application of a compulsory vertical integration sideshow at the command of so few.

What a pity MLA Palmer wont be around to see the inquisition that is yet to come; still the tentacles of the Commonwealth Criminal Code Part 7 s130 can still be brought to bear long after his departure. There are some problems with the R&D on private properties where there is little or non going on, I think its called ‘looking after your mates’, the same ones vote a lot at MLA AGM’s; then there is the Indo live export scam where Minister Wong paid the Indos $50million in cash to enforce the 350kg import limit…RMAC, MLA, CCA, Swift, Teys, Paul Howes, AWU etc were all behind that. Then there’s the $500 million MLA managed aid package to the Indos, to establish a cattle industry in Indonesia!!! When those cattle people up there in the north find out the truth Palmer will need to be long gone. No wonder he’s going he’s probably having trouble sleeping at night!!!
