Meat and Livestock Australia managing director, David Palmer, has signalled plans to resign from the top job of the red meat research and development and marketing group but will stay on until a replacement is appointed.
MLA chairman, Don Heatley, said February marked five years as managing director for Mr Palmer who felt it was the right time to move on and “allow different ideas to guide the company through its next phase”.
He said during Mr Palmer’s tenure many of the industry’s considerable investments in programs such as the National Livestock Identification System and Meat Standards Australia had matured to be key planks of Australia’s international marketing advantage.
“David can be rightly proud of his contribution to the industry and that he leaves a legacy of strong and stable administration that ensures MLA will continue to provide important service to the industry,” Mr Heatley said.
Mr Palmer replaced Mark Spurr in the top job in 2006 after three years as MLA’s region manager in North America and prior to that headed up MLA’s industry affairs and communication arm.
MLA said the board would now initiate the process of recruiting a new managing director however Mr Palmer planned to stay on until a successor was appointed.
