Prices hold firm at Euroa

17 Feb, 2012 03:00 AM
STEPHENS Livestock agent Andrew Stephens said the market held firm at Euroa last week, with 340 kilogram and under steers making between 230 and 250 cents a kilogram.

"The cattle have held on well and the good quality runs got good prices, with everything else on par and heifers steady," he said.

"The cattle sold well considering the fat market over the last few weeks and a drier summer than last year.

"Extra northern and local restocker buyers helped spark competition."

Mr Stephens reported grown steers to $910, and weaner steers $700-$800.

Eagle Enterprises, Bonnie Doon, sold 16 Angus and Angus-cross steers, 18 months, at $910 - the top steer price of the sale.

Henry Edgar, Britalong, Locksley, sold 14 Angus steers, 20 months, at $880, while JC&RA Walsh, Yarck, sold 29 Angus steers, 10-12 months, to $740, av $726.

In the cow and calf section, Copperlake, Caveat, sold 17 first-calving Angus cows with September/October-drop calves-at-foot at $1600.

Gooramadda, Acheron, sold six first-calving Angus cows with Kidman Traveller Gillchrist CAF at $1400.

In the pregnancy-tested in-calf pens, Garwen Park, Alexandra, sold 68 Angus heifers, 2-2.5yo, PTIC to Anvil and Burnbend sires for March calving, to $1300, av $1110, while GJ&EA Haw, Stanhope, sold 15 Shorthorn-Hereford heifers, PTIC for a March calving, at $1250 and 14 Charalois-Angus heifers of the same joining at $1150.
